130 girls have been admitted to the first all-girls school in Lubbock to open in August. Summer will be filled with orientation programs: leadership presentation, volunteering presentation, Engineering design project, School mascot election process, School uniform size fitting, Half-day community service projects and summer reading programs. Todd Whitaker, author of What Great Teachers Do Differently, will hold a workshop for the new faculty. The faculty will also have a strategic planning retreat and technology workshop.

The district's board approved a Memorandum of Understanding on Thursday with the Foundation for the Education of Young Women to open the single-sex school. The Dallas-based foundation will provide the district $1 million in seed money, allocating $250,000 each of the first four years the school is open. Read more...
